Assessing a fresher’s potential for a job role
For fresh graduate recruitment, resumes are almost redundant and so are CGPAs in our local context. Traditional resume formats offered by the Universities or searched by candidates often fall short in this regard, as they only provide a limited snapshot of a candidate’s skills and experience. Recruiters would be lucky if the candidate knows what his or her mission statement truly means or what to expect from their candidacy. In today’s fast-moving and competitive job market, it’s more important than ever to be able to accurately assess a candidate’s fit and associated performance potential for a particular role.
At Octapult, through MILLS Skills platform we’ve designed and developed a comprehensive and robust assessment process which is relevant to our social construct and cultural conditioning. We believe our online and experiential assessment modules coupled with structured panel interviewing provides a more accurate picture of a candidate’s potential, be it software programmers, electrical engineers or business graduates. Our 360-degree Resume (appended) goes beyond the traditional resume by incorporating the following:
- Online Profiling: We have 5 different assessments available for clients to choose from, including demographic profiling, 14-factor cognitive mix, 25 core behavioural self-assessment, PIE assessment (personal and interpersonal effectiveness) and value-set assessment (tarbiyah), which give us partial insights into their problem-solving ability.
- Experiential Assessment: We have designed multi-dimensional activities to cater to a cross-functional recruitment process with team challenges and business simulations, which allow the cohort and observers to assess their communication, collaboration and leadership skills across 9 competency framework.
- Structured panel interviews: Our portal enables assessors (client-side) to conduct in-depth interviews with candidates to assess their capacity for growth, sense of achievement, and ability to manage relationships.
- Potential score and Pen picture: Based on the above assessments, we generate a potential score for each candidate and a pen picture by the assessors which helps compare the cohort for a final panel interview.
As part of our on-going research, we continue to improve the 360-degree Resume to help recruiters access a more holistic and accurate assessment of a candidate’s potential than traditional resumes. We continuously incorporate feedback from our client-side assessors and candidates to improve our assessment and evaluation process.
